BOAT & EQUIPMENT RENTALS

CrossCurrents Demo Program

*All the products except the raft trailer, nets and cam straps are available on our Demo Program.  If you decide to purchase a new one of the products you are renting within two weeks of your rental date, we will deduct the rental price (up to 5 days worth of rentals) off the purchase price.  This is a great way to see for yourself how amazing the new Orvis Helios and Hydros Fly Rods really are!

Example #1- You rent an Orvis Helios 9’ 5-wt. 4-pc. fly rod for 4 days for $80.  You find that it launches line like no other and you have to have one of these sweet sticks for your own.  We deduct that rental price from the purchase price of a new rod.  $775 - $80 = $695.

Example #2- You’re  interested in buying a new pontoon boat but can’t decide between the Outcast PAC 800 (8’) and the PAC 1000 (10’).  You rent each boat for 2 days to fish out of and try out.  You can’t believe how well the 10’ boat handles with all the gear you strapped to it and decide to purchase the PAC 1000.  We deduct the 4 days worth of rentals from the purchase price of a new PAC 1000.  $1,450 - $200 = $1,250.  You saved $200 and more importantly, you picked the right boat for you because you were able to try out a couple of different boats and not have to rely on other peoples opinions or a marketing brochure.)

And now, the fine print:

* Boat rentals include boat & people drop-off or a shuttle from Dam or Wolf Creek Bridge to Craig.  There is a $25 shuttle credit towards a shuttle if customer has their own tow vehicle.  A full shuttle fee PLUS $5 applies for boat &/or people pick-up on floats lower river than Craig.  (This is still cheaper than any one else!  See our Missouri River Page for information & Prices on our Shuttles.)

*  A 50% Deposit is required to reserve boat or equipment.  (See Cancellation/Refund Policy.)

* All renters must fill out and sign a Rental Agreement Form and secure the equipment with a valid credit card:  Rental BOAT-EQUIP Agreement Form-2010.pdf

* All persons renting assume full responsibility for their own safety.

* All persons renting assume responsibility for damage to boats and equipment and will be charged the full repair price or replacement price if the product is lost, damaged or destroyed.

* Studded Wading Boots are NOT PERMITTED on our inflatable boats!!  You are responsible for all damage!

* All rental boats are kept in Craig.  There is a $75 Shuttle Fee for CrossCurrents to deliver boat(s) from Craig to Helena or to bring boats back to Craig that are dropped off in Helena.

*To pick up your boat the afternoon before your Smith trip launch date, it is $40 for that day but it does count towards the multi-day discount.

*All boats & equipment must be back to the Craig store by 7:00pm or the Helena store by 6:00pm on the last day of rental. –unless other arrangements are made & paid for ($5/hour late return fee) at the time of rental.

BOAT & EQUIPMENT RENTAL Reservation/Cancellation/Refund Policy

Boat and Equipment rentals require a 50% deposit that is collected and applied on a per day basis.  If cancellations are made more than 30 days before your reservation, a refund of your deposit less a 25% of deposit service charge will be returned to you.  If cancellations are made between 8 and 30 days of your reserved date(s) your deposit will be applied to a future rental later that year or the following season or for retail purchases of anything in our stores or the Orvis catalog.  If cancellations are made within 8 days of your reserved date(s) the entire deposit will be forfeited.  SPECIAL JULY CANCELLATION POLICY:  There are no refunds or transfers of any kind for reservation made for the month of July if the cancellation or changes are made within 30 days of the July reservation.  We operate in all safe weather and water conditions, therefore inclement weather or water or non-desirable fishing conditions are not reasons to cancel or receive a refund.  We do not issue cash refunds for cancellations made within 30 days of your reservation.  We operate in all safe weather and water conditions, therefore inclement weather or water is not a reason to cancel or receive a refund.  Failure to show or failure to cancel in a timely manner will result in you being liable for the entire cost of the reservation and our resultant collection of that amount from you.  All reservations and rentals are secured with a valid credit card.  We require a Credit Card Imprint, Account Verification/Pre-Authorization and Identification at the time of rental.  Your credit card will be charged the replacement price for any equipment not returned or destroyed.

Five Questions to Ask Before You Rent A Raft

Price isn’t the only thing to consider when you are renting a boat - especially if you are renting one for a multi-day trip like on the Smith River.

1- How old is the boat and what condition is the boat in?  A raft that leaks or one that is not of high quality material and construction that you have to do an on the river repair not only is annoying but can be dangerous.  At CrossCurrents, we replace our rental fleet nearly every year.  Most of our boats are less than one year old and are in excellent conditions and are top-of-the-line AIRE, Outcast or NRS Self-Bailing Rafts.  To date, we have never had a puncture on one of our rafts to where it lost air or the customer had to do an on-the-river repair.  But if/when it ever happens, we send you out with a complete repair kit and we brief you on how to use it before you head out.  (Click here for information and videos on how to make repairs)

2- What type of frame is included with the raft?  The frame is a critical component of the raft package.  CrossCurrents uses top-of-the-line, custom NRS frames.  These anodized aluminum frames are extremely strong, light, and highly adjustable.  With a few turns of a couple of nuts, you can adjust the frame for a rower or angler of 6’ 9” to one of 4’ 8”.  YOU never have to adjust to the frame, you ADJUST the FRAME to YOU.  Our frames come with an excellent anchor system and three comfortable seats (or just one or two, depending on what you want).  This is one of the biggest differences between the boats we rent and those of our competitors.  Our frames cost over $1200 and work right for your needs.  (Our competitors use fixed, welded steel frames that cost less than half the price of a an aluminum NRS frame and are not adjustable to you.)

3- What type of oars are included with the boat?  CrossCurrrents boats include either heavy-duty and matching Cataract Graphite Oars or Carlisle Outfitter Oars & Blades.  We also include a matching spare oar.

4- Do you include a complete repair kit and hand pump?  CrossCurrents makes sure you go on the river with a very complete repair kit and a top-of-the-line, double action hand pump.  Should the unlikely event of a tube puncture occur, you will have all the necessary materials and tools handy to make a quick and thorough repair and continue heading down river.  We also make sure you know how to do a repair before you leave our shop with the boat.  You can imagine how important this information and thorough repair kit will be if you puncture a tube on the second day of your five day Smith trip!  (Click here for information and videos on how to make repairs)

5- Are PFD’s (Life Jackets) included with your boat rental?  CrossCurrents includes up to five America’s Cup PFD’s with each raft.  (If you need more than five for a raft rental, we rent them individually as well.)  Our PFD’s are comfortable to wear and are in good shape.  Remember, every adult needs a PFD in the boat and every child 12 years old or younger needs to actually wear the PFD while in the boat.  CrossCurrents makes sure there is a PFD that will fit everyone in the boat.

You simply will not find a better rental boat-frame-oar-accessory combination than at CrossCurrents.  You may find a cheaper rental raft in the Helena/Craig area but as it has been said before, you get what you pay for so buyer beware.  When the conditions get tough on the river (especially on the Smith) you can rest assure that you’ve got what you need if you rented your boat from CrossCurrents.
