CrossCurrents has been a Full-Line Orvis Dealer since Paul Roos and John Kowalski were encouraged to start this shop by Orvis Owner & CEO,  Leigh Perkins and Perk Perkins back in 1994.  We continue that proud affiliation and have expanded it by opening our second store in Craig, Montana back in 2001.


From time to time we have customers ask us why we choose to be an exclusive Orvis Dealer.  I tell them that aside from having phenomenal products and the largest breadth of gear and gadgets of any fly fishing company out there, I believe strongly in Orvis and the Perkins family philosophy of improving and preserving our fisheries habitats.  No other company or owner puts more time, money and effort into conservation than Orvis or the Perkins.


Over the past several years I have had the privilege to get to know Perk Perkins and Dave Perkins (owners of Orvis) and their families and the good fortune to fish with them on our area waters.  These guys love fly fishing, hunting and have a business and conservation vision that is well beyond themselves or their company.  They want to see improved and protected habitats for fish and wildlife in perpetuity.  I share this conservation ethic and “vote with my dollars” so to speak by supporting a company that supports these noble efforts.  Many of those efforts have been right here in Montana on rivers such as the Blackfoot, Missouri and Smith Rivers.

Before Lincoln was President of the United States, before Stanley found Livingstone in the heart of Africa, and before the inventions of the phone, the phonograph, or even the light bulb, a man named Charles Orvis opened a fly-fishing shop in an elegant brick and marble building on the main street of a small Vermont town.


The year was 1856


Today, Orvis is much bigger and a lot more diverse, but in many ways still the same.  They’re still in the same small Vermont town.  They still make their fly rods by hand -both traditional bamboo and cutting edge carbon fiber.  They are still on the vanguard of the fly-fishing business.  And most importantly, they still thrive on quality and service.  Orvis prides themselves on offering products that are steeped in authenticity, that appeal to the discerning customer, and are backed by the best guarantee available anywhere.
