The first series of lines to feature the revolutionary AST PLUS slickness additive, the Amplitude will shoot farther and last longer than any other line on the market. It’s slickness down to a science.

Fly fishing for trout has never been so smooth, especially with a triple-textured line. Featuring our unparalleled AST Plus slickness additive, the Scientific Anglers Amplitude Trout Fly Line is slicker than any trout taper we’ve ever made, and will last over 8 times longer than other lines on the market. Built for precise presentations and those who love dry flies, the Amplitude Trout is a game changer on any stream, anywhere.

Shop Staff Notes:  This is one of the very best dry fly lines we have ever fished!  Textured lines are so amazing to cast.  They are our favorites to fish because of their performance and durability.  We tell people that they will add 10′-15′ of distance with the same casting stroke as their old, non-textured line! That’s not a sales pitch, it’s true! They float great, mend crazy good and we’ve already mentioned their castability. Yes, they make some noise as the line is flying through the guides and they can burn your finger if your stripping streamer quickly with them but those are not enough of a negative to not use this line. The zing noise can actually help you in casting by helping with your timing (you’ll know exactly when line is moving through the guides -and one of the main keys in fly casting is, “There shall not be any line moving through the guides until it’s time!”)  The figure burn with the streamers is fixed easily with a Buff Finger Sleeve. Bottom line about this line -you will love it!

We often get the question of which line should I buy- the MPX or the Trout?  We answer that by asking the customer a few questions as well.  Are you a DFO (Dry Fly Only) angler? Do you fish no matter what the wind situation is like? Do you mostly fish smaller flies? How experienced a fly caster are you?  These are all important because they help us help you pick the right fly line. If you mostly fish dries, small dries to spooky trout and head home when the wind kicks in because you are not a powerful caster, than the Scientific Anglers Amplitude Trout Fly Line is perfect.  But if you fish all types of flies and sizes and would fish in a hurricane if you had to or you’re new to fly fishing and your cast is not that perfect yet, than the MPX taper would be the best choice.  Both are excellent fly lines and in the hands of a decent caster, will improve their game considerably.

Info on SA Technologies:
AST Plus: A new formulation of our patented dry-slick technology provides continual line slickness over the lifetime of the line. Up to 50% slicker than the original AST and 200% more durable than the competition. Fly lines with AST Plus cast farther, float higher, and stay cleaner than any other lines ever built.
Improved Dry Tip:  Utilizing a unique blend of microballoons, we have developed a fly-line tip section that floats twice as high as a standard line. The tip section will be floating higher with our Dry Tip Technology, which means less drag from the front of the line and more positive hook-ups.
Floating Texture:  Featuring microreplication technology, the SA Floating Texture is a radical modification of typically smooth-surfaced fly lines. Its microtextured surface traps air to provide superior shootability and flotation while eliminating line flash and vastly reducing friction. Lines sit higher in the water, offering less drag and water spray, as well as easier mending, roll casting, and pick-ups.
Shooting Texture:  The Scientific Anglers Shooting Texture features precisely replicated hemispherical divots, similar to those found on a golf ball’s surface. This evolution of our texturing technology has less texture on its surface so it feels like a traditional fly line but performs with the benefits of texturing. The result is a line that lasts longer, floats higher, casts easier, and, most importantly, fishes better.
Tactile Reference Point:  The Tactile Reference Point is a non embossed section of line where the end of the head meets the running line. This allows you to feel—and hear—the transition from our textured technologies.
Welded Loops:  Exceptionally slick and strong, our Welded Loops produce smoother casts and easier turnover with a seamless fly-line-to-loop transition, making for softer landings and cleaner pickups. The sleek design also maintains buoyancy for improved fly-line flotation and enables quicker connections between fly line and leaders or Versileaders, or fly line and backing.
-SA ID:  Meet the Scientific Anglers Line Identification System. SA•ID is an innovative line-marking system allowing you to identify your lines at a glance. Wonder if a shooting head is 200 grain or a 300 or is that the Hydros SL Reel with the 5 weight or 6 weight line? Just look at the SA•ID. The SA•ID can be found on the first 1-2 feet of the tip section of your line.
