For those of you who love to fish dry flies on mountain streams and alpine lakes off the beaten path, Tenkara fly-fishing is for you!

Literally meaning テンカラ from the skies, Tenkara fly fishing dates back to the 8th and 9th centuries B.C. when Japanese anglers first began using bamboo poles, natural line, and hand tied flies to catch trout in mountain streams.  Today, this simple yet effective method of fly-fishing has changed little.  You still only need a rod, line, and fly.  Check out this link for more information on the origins of Tenkara. http://www.tenkarausa.com/about.php

One day a local villager asked a master Japanese fly fisher how he caught so many fish. His reply: “Well, the fish sees the fly coming from the sky ‘tenkara’ and when it lands, he bites.”

CrossCurrents Fly Shop now carries the full lineup of TenkaraUSA rods, lines, and flies.  Our knowledgeable staff can answer any questions you have and set you up with the perfect Tenkara fly rod for this summer’s small stream adventures.
