Hump Day Brown Trout

Craig, MT is looking good this morning, windless, overcast and a solid 42 degrees at the moment. This afternoon is calling for a 30% chance of rain, a high of 51 degrees and wind becoming NNW at 7 mph. The flow out of Holter is 6530 cfs and the water temperature is 38 degrees.

Nymphing is still the hot ticket on the MO. Pink scuds, sows, czechs and lightning bugs have been doing well, add a fire bead to those and prepare to hang on tight to that rod. Worms are also an excellent fly choice for these conditions, I recommend a wire worm to get that sucker down deep.

We’ve been plucking a few out on streamers, nothing crazy but they are moving for them. Flashy, white, standard size had been doing the trick for us. The browns were liking the fast strip off the bank so don’t be afraid to try that either.

We’d like to give a shout out to Garret Munson and the boys from Montana Fishing Outfitters. MFO’s Guide School will be staying with us in Craig for the next few days.

Also a friendly reminder that the Orvis Guide Rendezvous (aka #OGR14) is this weekend in Missoula, MT, we’ll be there, so should you. After the festivities in the zoo, come on out to Craig this Sunday for some more OGR fun on the river.

Feel free to give Bill and Ed a call at the shop for a more detailed fishing report… 406-235-3433

Tight lines and stay classy you crazy fisherman.
