Let’s get this out of the way: catching a tailing redfish might be the greatest thing in the world. Just make sure you have the right line for the job. Our Mastery Redfish Cold line is designed with a short head for quick shots, which is exactly what you’ll need when you’re poling through a marsh in 10 inches of water on a freakishly chilly fall evening.
Shop Staff Notes: The Scientific Anglers Mastery Redfish Cold fly line is a great choice for just as it’s name describes -chasing Redfish in the cooler months (Nov, Dec, Jan). Our Craig store Manager and Redfish/Carp Guide, Ben Cooley, has this fly line spooled up on a couple of his reels for him and his Clients to use on Redfish during his Guide season down in Louisana (Nov – early Jan). But don’t let the name fool you as this line is also excellent for Carp, Bass, Pike, Snook, Drum and other big game species in both fresh and saltwater. Super solid performance and not a budget breaker being in the Mastery series and coming in under $80. Keep in mind, the Mastery series used to be the top tier from SA but as new technology came along (Amplitude), SA kept this awesome line Series and made it its second tier line. If a $100 for a line is fine by you, then try the Amplitude Smooth Infinity Salt (which is Ben’s favorite fly line for Redfish).
Info on the SA Technologies in this line:
-ST+ Additive: Much like our patented Advanced Shooting Technology, the ST+ is an integrated slickness additive built into the coatings of our fly lines, providing continual line slickness as the coating continues to wear. The ST+ additive enhances the slickness of fly lines even more than AST, and lines with ST+ shoot farther and float higher than any lines ever have before.
–Welded Loops: Exceptionally slick and strong, our Welded Loops produce smoother casts and easier turnover with a seamless fly-line-to-loop transition, making for softer landings and cleaner pickups. The sleek design also maintains buoyancy for improved fly-line flotation and enables quicker connections between fly line and leaders or Versileaders, or fly line and backing.
-SA ID: Meet the Scientific Anglers Line Identification System. SA•ID is an innovative line-marking system allowing you to identify your lines at a glance. Wonder if a shooting head is 200 grain or a 300 or is that the Mirage LT Reel with the 5 weight or 6 weight line? Just look at the SA•ID. The SA•ID can be found on the first 1-2 feet of the tip section of your line.
