Here’s an idea: instead of spending $100 on a trout line, pick up a Frequency Trout fly line and use the rest on your next drive-all-night road trip to the Missouri River and rent a Drift Boat! The Trout taper features a versatile, mid-length head ideal for delicate dries; however, it also provides great line control for nymph rigs. If you’re a trout angler, this is your Frequency.
Shop Staff Notes: This is a great fly line for the beginner or the angler who is on a tight budget. It’s a smooth fly line with the added technology of SA’s AST. A good basic weight-forward taper makes this a good choice if a $80-$100 smooth fly line or $130 textured fly line are just not in your budget. This is a good step up from the Orvis Clearwater fly line so it’s worth the extra $10 to upgrade to Scientific Anglers Frequency Trout fly line. One thing to consider is to bump up 1 line size than your rod (i.e. put a 6wt line on a 5wt rod). These Frequency Trout lines are spot on the AFTMA grain weights and if your rod is on the fast action side or you are a newer to fly casting, you’ll find it most helpful to over-line your rod and get it to load deeper with less line in the air.
Info on the SA Technologies in this line:
–AST: Advanced Shooting Technology. Scientific Anglers’ patented dry-slick technology provides continual line slickness, allowing the line to shoot farther as it moves through the guides. Lines with AST easily shed dirt, algae, and other parasitic drag particles, allowing lines to cast farther, float higher, and stay cleaner than traditional lines.
–Welded Loop: Exceptionally slick and strong, our Welded Loop on the terminal end produce smoother casts and easier turnover with a seamless fly-line-to-loop transition, making for softer landings and cleaner pickups. The sleek design also maintains buoyancy for improved fly-line flotation and enables quicker connections between fly line and leaders or Versileaders.
-SA ID: Meet the Scientific Anglers Line Identification System. SA•ID is an innovative line-marking system allowing you to identify your lines at a glance. Wonder if a shooting head is 200 grain or a 300 or is that the Mirage LT Reel with the 5 weight or 6 weight line? Just look at the SA•ID. The SA•ID can be found on the first 1-2 feet of the tip section of your line.
