The Orvis Clearwater Travel 8-Weight 9′ 6-Piece Fly Rod joins the Orvis 908 arsenal as the most popular big game rod model for species from big freshwater bass to bonefish, stripers, and false albacore. New convenient 6-piece easily breaks down into two equal sections for quick transport from spot to spot. With a rod tube at just 22½”L, it easily fits into a duffle, pack, or under the car seat. Shop Staff Notes:  The Orvis Clearwater Travel 9’ 8-Weight 6-piece Fly Rod is a great rod to take on your “family” vacation -when you really know it’s a “fly fishing” vacation for you! This sweet casting rod packs down so small, you could easily slip it into you carry-on bag. We got to admit, this rod casts great and would be fine for your primary rod if your budget was under $300. We think of this rod more as a back-up rod, your lender rod (when you’re fishing buddy or family member doesn’t have one of their own) or as your primary rod on a trip where the fly fishing won’t be the main focus. Being an 8-weight, you’ll be able to fish for many saltwater species as well as big game in freshwater, like bass, pike and big trout or even steelhead.  You get a lot of bang for your buck with the Clearwater rod series.  You do get more casting and fishing performance and American-made craftsmanship when you bump in price and go for a Recon and certainly to a Helios 3D or H3F.  But if your budget keeps you under $270, the Clearwater Travel series is an excellent choice.
