The Recon 3-Weight 10′ 4-Piece Fly Rod is designed for the demands of European nymphing. Ultra sensitive tip protects light tippet and offers superior strike detection. Super light swing weight. 10-foot length offers excellent reach and line control for tight-line nymphing. Helios™ 3 is the benefactor behind the new Recon, utilizing its construction techniques and performance attributes to refine and improve the new series. Increased hoop strength, better tracking, improved damping, and ultimately, significantly improved accuracy are now incorporated into the Recon that is also stronger, more impact resistant, and offers the mid-price buyer access to the best technology Orvis fly rods have to offer. Shop Staff Notes: The NEW Orvis Recon 10′ 3-weight Fly Rod is a beautiful fly rod deigned for European style fishing in mind and accomplishes that task wonderfully well. It’s crazy light in hand and balanced well with it’s down-locking reel seat and short fighting butt. this is very helpful because you are most often raising the rod from chest height to head height on almost every drift. You’ll appreciate this lightness and balance after a couple hours! It has a light, sensitive tip section that really helps in detecting takes and protecting tippets. The Butt section has plenty of power to steer a big brown around that log it wants to dive under! It also lets you use it as a pretty nice dry fly rod when the noses start showing. If you want to just Euro Nymph with this rod, then get one of our Euro Nymph Outfits. If you want to also use it for dries and indicator fishing, get the other Outfits with the Trout fly lines. Bottom line, this rod is fun to fish and fun to fight fish on! If you’re not sure about Euronymphing and are looking to get into it for a bit less money, try the sweet, new Clearwater 103. If you love this technique and want the lightest rod and the finest rod designed for Euronymphing, get the Helios 3F 103. If you’ve got mid-price is your range, then you’ll love this new Recon!
